Your comprehensive guide to timber flooring
Whether you’re considering timber flooring for your home or seeking information on maintenance, installation, or the variety of wood species available, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of answers to address your queries. Timber flooring is a timeless and popular choice, and this guide aims to provide you with the essential information to make informed decisions.
What is the difference between solid and engineered flooring?
Solid flooring is as it suggests, completely solid timber whereas engineered flooring is made up of a ply base and solid timber on top (lamella). Each of these options come in different widths and thicknesses so ask our consultants for more information.
Is solid or engineered flooring better?
Each type of flooring has its advantages. Solid flooring has more random and longer lengths however it does need to be sanded and polished once it is laid. Engineered flooring is easily laid however, the longest lengths will generally be around two meters but you can walk on it and move furniture back in the day after it is laid – ideal for a renovation.
How do I go about obtaining a quote?
We can generally quote off plans if you have them. If you don’t have plans, one of our consultants can come to your house and do a site check and measure and we can send a quote to you following that.
How do I care for my floor?
With every floor we install we provide a maintenance kit which includes floor cleaner and instructions on how to care for your floor. Some basics are to use a Ph neutral cleaner (Versadett by Peerless Jal is our recommendation and available at Bunnings) and use a damp mop, not a wet one. Regularly sweep your floor with a modacrylic dust broom to remove any grit that has the potential to scratch your floor.
Is timber flooring environmentally friendly?
Hardwood is more energy-efficient than other flooring surfaces and is a sustainable resource. Timber flooring also stores carbon within its cell structure ensuring the carbon is never released into the atmosphere.
How long does timber flooring last?
A timber floor is harder and more durable than other surfaces. It can last a lifetime meaning less waste from renewing your flooring (unlike carpeting, which has a lifecycle of 10-15 years).
How do I choose the right timber flooring for my home?
